Our June & July Tour Kicks Off at Flat Earth Brewery…

Greetings from Apocalypt— uh, I mean, greetings from Minnesota! Hello, Lazy Susan fans, it’s your friendly neighborhood bass player Mike D. here, logging in to let you know that I am indeed alive, despite my brush with the incredibly deadly Botswanan Bass Flu last week. Aided by the miracles of modern pharmacology, I was able to beat the odds and stay awake for more than a few hours in order to play our CD release party at Can Can Wonderland. And I know I speak for the band when I say “THANK YOU!!!” to all of those who joined us for the show. Your hearty cheers and undivided attention made us all feel like rock stars, and probably kept me upright.

I don’t know if I’ve ever played a show like that. Because the “concept” behind our album “Greetings from Apocalyptic Falls” was the imminent end of the world, we tried to set the stage, stay very serious during the set, and even pretend that our cell phones might hold the answers. It was very difficult not to interact with our devoted crowd, who cheered as the took the stage and stayed engaged throughout the set. What a relief it was to rock out in our more traditional manner for the second set and to let you all know how much you mean to us!

And as if that weren’t enough, the fabulous Nick Hensley closed out our night and made everyone feel warm and fuzzy with his sweet buttery gravel voice and amazing songs. We’re not sure how we’re going to top that night!

OK, maybe we won’t actually try to top May 19th…but we’re certainly not done playing! In fact, we’ve lined up a boatload of shows in June and July, as you can see on our Events page. It all starts the very first day of June at Flat Earth Brewery in St. Paul. This will be the rare full-band, early start (6:30 pm), family-friendly show, and we hope you’ll join us!

The world won’t end if you don’t…but it might seem a little flatter. 😉

What if you learned the sun was going super nova, and all of us on Earth had just 24 hours to live? What would you do? Not an easy question to answer, is it?

Well, instead of worrying about the answers, j. bell and his songwriting partners in crime, $2 Bill and BPZMAG wrote an album’s worth of songs around this question. And then they hit the recording studio, bringing in bassist Mike D. and drummer Kent Mortimer to complete several tunes. And the result is: “Greetings from Apocalyptic Falls”, a record unlike anything you’ve ever heard from the Lazy Susan Band.

Filled with synths, electric drums, and contemplative lyrics, our first “concept album” is finally ready to be released. And we want YOU to join us at Can Can Wonderland on May 19th to help us celebrate it. This will be our first time playing this amazing venue, and the only time you’ll be able to hear the entire album played live from beginning to end. Here’s the schedule for the night:

  • 8:30 pm: Cocktails, mini-golf, and $5 CDs
  • 9:30 pm: Greetings from Apocalyptic Falls set
  • 10:30 pm: “Retrospective” Lazy Susan Band set
  • 11:20-12:30 pm: Closeout Jam with Nick Hensley

We’ll have more details to reveal soon, but for now, mark your calendars and plan to join us! And we’ll hope that the sun keeps calm until then…

(Update: while we hope you’ll join us on 5/19, if you can’t make it here are a host of other gigs booked this spring and summer. Details are on our Events page.)

1/27/17 JBLSB plays Underneath a Minnesota Moon in it’s entirety!!

2016 was a great year for the Lazy Susan Band! Our new album, Underneath a Minnesota Moon, has been very well received and we couldn’t be prouder. We’ve decided to play the album top to bottom on January 27th at our favorite rock & roll bar in Minneapolis, the Driftwood Char Bar!! Come on out and hear the whole record LIVE! Tom is overseas for a while, so our old LSB band-mate Mike D is joining us for the weekend. We say weekend because the following night, January 28th, we are going to take the show down to the Contented Cow in Northfield, MN. We’ve played their summer concert series, but never inside before. We can’t wait!
