This month’s update comes straight from our drummer extraordinaire, Kent Mortimer:
When the pandemic started five years ago most rock and roll came to a halt. In case you haven’t figured this out yet, the Lazy Susan Band are not a bunch of quitters and we tried multiple ways to keep rocking and rolling. We played weekly livestreams for over a year, released our Unreliable Witness album, made videos for the songs and even managed to play a handful of in person outdoor live shows in the summer of 2020.
During the very peak of everything being shut down when no one could get together in person we tried to remotely record an album. We overcame technical obstacles to demo songs in our homes and jam spaces and then we went out to Farmhouse Records in River Falls, Wisconsin where Jonathan Earl had modified his studio so that we could each individually record our parts without ever being in the same room with each other.
In early 2022 we re-recorded some of the songs from that album and those songs ended up being our Waiting On Better Weather EP that we released in 2022. However, some of the songs on that album have rarely if ever been played for anyone. When we started rehearsing for our first 2025 show coming up on Saturday, February 1 at Carbone’s in Minneapolis, we decided to try playing some of those lost songs and were shocked to discover that they rocked. We’re looking forward to playing some of those songs from the lost pandemic album at our February 1 show.
What else can, I, a lowly bass player, add? 😉 Well, I guess I could tell you that you need to go to our events page to learn about the other two venues you can see us at next month. Happy 2025 everyone!
